The name of our band MANBOUSS comes from Bislama, the language spoken in VANUATU and it means the man who lives in the bush according to the law of the nature and he totally refuses all kind of technology which is imported from industrial countries.

The style of music we are playing is called reggae akoustik. So why now reggae ? In the idea of reggae one can find the idea of peace, and harmony and we think strong that all the people throughout the world should have a peaceful life.

We live in France and we’ve been playing our music everywhere in the country and we believe that as long as we are music maker, our job is to try to make people understand and realise that every step we make today will have an incident in the world of tomorrow. So we have to be careful.

The lyrics are in French but we also have some traditional songs and rythms from VANUATU.
Our aim is to live simply and both together with our music and share our melody with all.

Who we are

JOHN

It’s in Vanuatu, not far from Australia, that John was born. At first, drummer in differents groups of reggae, like “Jam dow” and “square roots”, he devoted himself to the guitar and decided to create Manbouss in 2001. Since then, the guitar always stayed with him.

ZOUICK

He likes the wind, that’s why he blows in everything he can find such as sax, flute, harmonica... He should have been born in Africa (Gabon). He pushed his first cry in France. And just after crying, he took a flute and never quit it.
